  Posting a comment on someone's page or an entry in a forum MAY count if the page has good traffic and if you DO NOT SPAM! Don't just randomly insert my link anywhere; it has to legitimately answer someone else's question or be of interest to the community in which you post it.

  Have a great character build? Want to share a badging or teaming guide?

  General guidelines are that they must not be about griefing or doing anything else that is against the game EULA or rules of conduct. Length and detail are up to you, but realize that I may not be able to use every guide submitted. You'll still get credit for the contest either way unless the guide was submitted in bad faith or is otherwise atrocious.

  I reserve the right to change the guide as I see fit, though if when I'm done with it, you no longer want to be associated with it, of course I'll remove your name. Otherwise, consider this a chance to promote yourself! I will list your name and a link to any other site you wish (as long as that link meets the standards of quality of Jordan's Town) along with your guide.

  Including images is not required, but considered very helpful. Also writing it in HTML format. Here are some basic guidelines, though straight text will also count as long as the guide quality is good.

  • Please wrap paragraphs with a <p> and </p> tag.

  • You can use the auto-image (Every image on this page for example) function by following this convention: <jtag figure=img.jpg caption="any title or caption you want" align=left />

    You can also set a width or use right or centered alignment. If you want to use a thumbnail version, the figure function will handle that automatically as long as you use two images: img.jpg and img_th.jpg. As long as you name them exactly the same except adding _th before the jpg extension, it will automatically find and use the thumbnail.

  • You can use my character callout function (example here in the O2 boost section)to make it look like Gale, Jordan, or Shazel are commenting on your guide using this format: <jtag tip="Anything you want them to say" which=gale/> where which is equal to the character you want to speak. NOTE! If you go to this length to write your guide, I would consider adding your character to the "Tip" function so your own character will say it instead!
  • The function that runs the enhancement recommendations is a bit complicated, but I can share it with you if you request it. Otherwise you can just write out your recommendations and I'll modify it later.

  Note that if you have interest of being a contributing author to Jordan's Town, I am open to that and can give you a login that will allow you to write guides and see the effect online! Just let me know 🙂

There will be two winners in each category (1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd) and for maximum flexibility, prizes are flexible.

1st place winners may choose ONE of the following options:

2nd place winners may choose ONE of the following options:

Contest details

Void where prohibited. Timecards are available to anyone, but cameos and art are only available to other players of City of Heroes/Villains (clearly). The contest ends on the last day of May and winners will be selected on or near June 1st.

Winners will be selected at random using a computer to pick a random entrant. The first two names selected will be first place winners, the next two second place, etc. The same individual cannot win twice.

Depending on the response to the contest or if particular entries are truly exceptional, I may award additional prizes at my discretion (which may or may not be individually awarded versus random draw)

Contest entries

Besides the things I've listed here, I may count other activities as entries as the month progresses. You are welcome to suggest other activities that can count as an entry and if I agree, I'll add them to the contest.

No entry is more weighted than another, but any single person can have multiple entries thus increasing their chances of winning. I won't limit the number of entries a single person can have unless I feel like someone has found a way to abuse the system.

I reserve the right to count exceptional submissions for double or triple entries as the case may warrant!

When submitting entries, be sure to provide contact information! When using the comment form here, be sure to put in your website or e-mail. Same when using the contact page. I will use your information for the contest, but definitely NOT for spam. I won't share your information with anyone.

If winners do not respond in a reasonable time, I may cancel their winner status and award it instead to another entrant.

Right to do anything I want because I'm mean

I reserve the right to alter the conditions of the contest in case of typographical error, legal issues, or other problems I didn't foresee. I'm not going to welch out of anything, but I'm certain someone will come around eventually trying to abuse the contest and using a loophole for their benefit. This clause is here for that case or similar and will probably never be enacted unless I totally screwed this up.

If you don't understand a part of this contest ASK!!!!!! Comments are open so post away. I will try to resolve any ambiguity as soon as I can.

I will do my very best in any cases of artwork (cameo, colored art, or pencil sketch) to match the theme and attitude of the character. This is dependent on cooperation of the winners to provide details of their character such as a backstory or similar. Even then, it's possible that a winner will not like the resulting work (disappointing, but possible). In such cases, I am unable to redo the work or create a replacement. I try my best, but satisfaction is NOT guaranteed.

For customer service and because I understand how much love and affection one can have for their creations, I may be able to make some adjustments if asked kindly, but it will remain at my discretion whether to do so or not.

Copyright and License

Obviously if you provide screenshots or costume files for one of your characters, you are granting me full permission to create works based on your character. I own the copyright and retain all rights for resulting work, though I do NOT claim any copyright or further rights to use your characters beyond the purposes of this contest without your permission.

As far as your permissions, you have free license to do whatever you want with artwork so long as you credit it back to Jordan's Town. You can make derivative works or have someone else color a pencil sketch or anything you want, but please remember to give credit back here for the original idea/work 🙂

Comics are an exception. You do not have the right to copy my comic in which your character appears to other websites without talking to me first. In most cases, it would probably be fine, but considering the amount of work in the average comic, I want to clear that on a case-by-case basis.

For submissions of your artwork (you drew or created fan art of Jordan's Town characters), you retain your copyrights per normal, but must grant me an unlimited license to use the resulting work you created any way I see fit. I can post it, modify it, color it, put it on a t-shirt, whatever I want. You of course can do the same since it's yours, but you agree not to restrict my use of it either. If you put an artist signature on the work, I will make sure any resulting use of the image retains it.

The only exception to this is when you create artwork of Jordan's Town characters that are found to be unacceptable for some reason. In those cases, I will exert my rights by law to prevent you from posting or otherwise using the artwork. Even though you created the work, the characters in it are copyright to me and under my control legally. I doubt that I will need to use this clause, but it's here just in case. REMEMBER TO ASK IF IN DOUBT!

I do not claim nor do I grant any rights regarding any part of any drawing or comic that contains copyright belonging to someone else. I will make my best effort to only draw or include works that are not copyrighted or have been legitimately granted use to me.
